GPCA Executive Director, Kelly McLendon Wins!

From Glen Ramsey, President GPCA

I want to extend our congratulations to our Executive Director, Kelly McLendon, CAE, for winning the Alan R. Johnson Award from the Georgia Society of Association Executives (GSAE).

This prestigious award was established in 1994 and named in memory of a former Chair of the GSAE Foundation. It is given to an association executive in Georgia who has demonstrated qualities of teamwork (ability to work with and support others), vision (ability to see possibilities for making things happen and communicating this vision to others), and servant leadership (willingness to reach out beyond work and home to benefit the community).

I was honored to attend the awards ceremony with Kelly as she received her award on December 7th at Evergreen Lakeside Resort inside the beautiful Stone Mountain Park.

The video they played at the presentation is below along with some pictures from the event.

We are so lucky to have Kelly and we are proud to have her recognized by her peers.

Congratulations again, Kelly!

What is a CAE?

The Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation elevates the professional standards of executive associations that run associations.

The CAE enhances individual performance and designates association professionals who demonstrate the knowledge essential to the practice of association management. This knowledge includes rules governing associations on a state and federal level, rules and regulations dictated by the IRS, ways to improve the benchmarks of healthy associations like member numbers, revenue generated, and programs presented, and leadership and management skills necessary to achieve these goals. To obtain a CAE you must study extensively, sit for and pass with % a written exam that takes approximately three hours, and then maintain the CEU requirements on an annual basis. This is like becoming a Board Certified Entomologist.

This certification requires yearly continuing education on state and federal laws governing associations including IRS rules and regulations, association
development, management, and leadership skills.
